Inactive or broken resources

http://oxfordhackspace.org.uk

Name Web site: http://oxfordhackspace.org.uk/
Contains Intro page with pointers to old list and wiki. Old mailing list archive.
Status Largely broken, but the old list archive is good.
Owner/admin Seb
Issues Mailing list is broken, can't subscribe or post. Intro page cannot be changed to point to fixed list. Pointed to wiki has limitations on editing as well.
Tasks done Contacted Seb, asking for access to domain or server.
Tasks pending Still haven't got a reply from Seb about the domain or server.
Responsibility Matt is pursuing this.

old mailing list

Name: The old (now broken) mailing list.

               Subscribe address: <minimalist@zecrazytux.net>
               List address: <list@oxfordhackspace.org.uk>
               List archive: http://oxfordhackspace.org.uk/mlarchives/

Contains: The old mailing list, and it's archives. Status: Can't subscribe or post anything. Just get large numbers

of repeating replies indicating an error with the mail system.
The mailing list archive is fine, except it's the filtered one,
the raw messages aren't available for porting to elsewhere.

Owner/admin: Seb (zecrazytux), we believe the only admin.

Issues: The old mailing list isn't being used, but we can't post

anything to *say* to new people that the list isn't being used
and they should go to a new location. And we can't *change*
the web page which points to this list either.

Tasks done: Contacted Seb, asking for old mailing list subscribers.

Got those, and sent invitations to the Google Group.
Copied the old list archive to a safe place [Jamie].

Tasks pending: Would like to change or remove the web page pointer.

Would like to post a final message to the list and its archive.
Would like a copy of the raw archive for
posterity/history, in a new archive location. [Jamie
has made a copy of the filtered list archive.]
However, just taking it down would be helpful as well.

Responsibility: Matt contacted Seb, got the list of subscribers (known only to Matt),

and sent invitations to Google Groups.
For anything else, no responsibility assigned.

http://wiki.oxfordhackspace.org.uk (docuwiki)

Name: Wiki (Dokuwiki): http://wiki.oxfordhackspace.org.uk/ Contains: The old wiki. Status: It's a fine wiki, but we consider it the "old" wiki now,

due to loss of control, and association with the broken
               stuff on the parent domain.

Owner/admin: Oleg

BUT it's a functional wiki, and MOST pages can be edited.
by anyone who creates an account; that still works as of
2012-07-17. However the front page can't be.

Issues: Many of he pointers to events, where we meet, mailing lists,

other sites and so on need checking. Some have been
               updated, some haven't.
We would like to replace it soon with a single placeholder
to say the active web site is elsewhere.

Tasks done: Contacted Oleg, asking for access to edit the front page. Tasks pending: Edit the front page, to point to new locations.

Clear up the wiki, copy out useful old stuff.

Responsibility: ???

Maintenance: Make sure the contact and event info on various pages is

kept up to date. [Those pages yet to be listed here.]
When it's a cleaned up front page, make sure contact
info on that is kept up to date.

@oxhack twitter account

Name: Twitter account: @oxhack Contains: Twitter #oxhack is mentioned on the old wiki (hashtag).

@oxhack (twitter user) is not mentioned, but it has been
registered and may be good to use occasionally.

Owner/admin: Unknown

Issues: We don't know the password, or who owns the account. Tasks done: Contacted Oleg, asking if he's the owner. Tasks pending: If we don't find out, can we reclaim it from Twitter

given that it seems to have not been used? Probably not.
               Find out.

Responsibility: Jamie has asked Oleg, let's see what happens.

Maintenance: Only if we acquire the account.

Oxford geek jam mailing list

Name: Mailing list: <oxford-geek-jam@googlegroups.com>

               Subject prefix: [oxfordgeekjam]
               Web page: http://groups.google.com/group/oxford-geek-jam?hl=en-GB
               Subscribe: oxford-geek-jam+subscribe@googlegroups.com
               Unsubscribe: oxford-geek-jam+unsubscribe@googlegroups.com
Or being a Google Group, subscribe on the web page with a Google account.

Contains: An old mailing list, no longer active Owner/admin: UNKNOWN (Matt?)

Tasks done: Posted a final message to say the list is closed

and activity is moved to the new list at
               <oxford-hackspace@googlegroups.com>.

Tasks pending: Possibly update the description and/or links in it.

If there is a way to block further posts to the list,
or redirect them, that would be good to enable.

Responsibility: Jamie will check the description.

Active or pending resources

oxford-hackspace@googlegroups.com mailing list

Name: Mailing list: <oxford-hackspace@googlegroups.com>

               Subject prefix: [Oxhack]
               Web page: http://groups.google.com/group/oxford-hackspace?hl=en-GB
               Subscribe: oxford-hackspace+subscribe@googlegroups.com
               Unsubscribe: oxford-hackspace+unsubscribe@googlegroups.com
Or being a Google Group, subscribe on the web page with a Google account.

Contains: The active mailing list Status: Very active Owner/admin: Lauren

Currently I think only Lauren can update the description,
decide which topics to make sticky, and other administrative
               tasks.

Tasks pending: Check if the description contains correct links.

Share out the admin access a bit, others should be able to
declare a topic sticky and edit the description, when Lauren
               isn't available.
Make sure the Wiki instructions say how to subscribe in *both* the
ways Google supports, as it's quite straightforward. This could also
go in the group description or a sticky.
Even for people who don't mind Google, but don't have (or want to
use) a Google account, it's offputting to be asked to register and
start a profile just to read a list. Think how you feel when
following a link to an article on nytimes.com or something, where it
says "to read, please just register now". Most just leave.

Responsibility: Jamie will check the description.

Maintenance: Keep the description and links in the profile up to date.

Showing the time of the next events might be good.

#oxford-hack-space freenode IRC channel

Name: IRC channel: #oxford-hack-space (on freenode.net) Contains: The active IRC channel. Status: Very active, and more tech stuff than the mailing list sees.

               Archive should be made public.

Owner/admin: [TO BE CHECKED - ChanServ knows - there are two "founders"]

Jamie has "ops" only - can change topic and certain
thinkg, but not grant ops to others (due to ChanServ),
and cannot view or edit other ChanServ controls.

Tasks pending: Ask ChanServ who has "founder" status etc.

Ensure ChanServ control is not limited to one active person
               remaining in the group.
London's method of granting "ops" to anyone who requests it who
is a paying member is cute, it acts as a sort of "badge" showing
               the level of membership.
Document how to connect to Freenode, or at least point somewhere.
Is it worth creating "forwards" on #oxford-hackspace, #oxhack,
#oxfordhackspace, so people get redirected to the right one? Does
               any other group do this?

Responsibility: Jamie will query ChanServ.

Maintenance: Keep the topic up to date with the time of next events,

and any changes to list and web addresses.

Dwarr's IRC log

Name: IRC channel archive page: http://users.ox.ac.uk/~kebl3927/oxspace.log Contains: Partial archive of the IRC channel at a particular time. Status: Is not updated yet.

Safe copy has been made [Jamie]

Owner/admin: Doesn't matter, it's just a file.

Tasks done: Jamie is running dircproxy which keeps logs of the channel now,

for future processing. (Except on those few occasions that dircproxy
decides to stop working.) They aren't in a presentable form yet, and
aren't sent to any web page.

Tasks pending: Automate IRC logging and presentation on web for non-IRC users.

Try to get older IRC logs if we can, they are probably interesting.
They may be in someone's IRC client, whoever started the channel.

Responsibility: ???

Maintenance: Check it's still logging, and still presenting :)

Google+ page

Name: GooglePlus (G+): https://plus.google.com/115309514895166748046/posts

[NOT SURE IF THERE'S A SANE URL OR NAME RIGHT NOW]

Owner/admin: Nick (I think)

Maintenance: Keep the description and links up to date.

Showing the time of the next events might be good.

Bilty links

Name: Bitly URL: http://bit.ly/OxHackGplus Contains: Redirect to the GooglePlus (G+) group Owner/admin: Nick (I think)

Maintenance: Keep this up to date if the GooglePlus URL changes, or is removed.

This wiki

Name: Wiki site: http://oxhack.demozoo.org/wiki/Main_Page Contains: The "new" wiki. Status: It's still quite new. Owner/admin: Matt

BUT it's a functional wiki, and HOPEFULLY all pages can be edited
by anyone who creates an account.

Issues: Nick pointed out it's already getting spam updates. Tasks pending: Sort out the spam problem.

Migrate more content from the old wiki.
               Lots of things to add.
Cloak it behind a "nice URL" for long-lived bookmarks
               and links in other places.

Responsibility: ??? + everyone

Maintenance: Keep the description and links up to date.

Showing the time of the next events might be good.
Get rid of spam that appears.
Archive old projects that someone creates intending
to do, and then never updates (after a long time).

Side note: Is Matt affiliated with demozoo? That looks fun and

relevant in some curious way to the hackspace.

oxhack.org domain

Name: Domain: oxhack.org Contains: Recently acquired domain. Status: Currently set with low TTLs and secondary refresh for

rapid changes when we decide what we want to do, in case it needs
to be activated fast for OGN! We do not *have* to use
this, but it's here for now, and ready if needed.

Owner/admin: Jamie [via Bytemark (DNS+servers) and Heart Internet (registrar)]

Issues: DNS good, still setting up HTTP though. Tasks done: Acquire domain.

Set up low TTLs and low secondary refresh times for
rapid changes when we decide what we want to do.

Tasks pending: May want to remove secondary DNS, use primary only for speed.

Redirect HTTP the same as www.oxhack.org, when that's done.
Accept SMTP mail on this domain, if only for admin (like hostmaster@...).

Responsibility: Jamie

Maintenance: Keep this up to date if main web servers change.

http://oxhack.org website

Name: Web site: http://oxhack.org/ Contains: Intend to redirect same as www.oxhack.org, probably. Status: Currently just a basic placeholder. Owner/admin: Jamie

Issues: Currently just a basic placeholder. Tasks pending: Redirect to same place as www.oxhack.org, when that's decided. Responsibility: Jamie

http://www.oxhack.org website

Name: Web site: http://www.oxhack.org/ Contains: Intend to redirect to the wiki URL, probably. Status: Currently just a basic placeholder. Owner/admin: Jamie

Issues: Currently just a basic placeholder. Tasks pending: Redirect to the wiki URL, probably.

Or decide if the main page has something else,
or combines various things with the main wiki page.
E.g. we may want an IRC log, and other things, which
don't fit well into the wiki, or which would be
overcomplicated to implement as Mediawiki modules.

Responsibility: Jamie

http://wiki.oxhack.org/ website

Name: Web site: http://wiki.oxhack.org/ Contains: Intend to show the wiki at this URL, and be long-lived.

Not redirection, so that bookmarks are sensible.

Status: Currently just a basic placeholder. Owner/admin: Jamie

Issues: Currently just a basic placeholder. Tasks pending: Point to the "new" wiki in a useful way.

May need cooperation with Matt over the "new" wiki server,
or may work with HTTP proxying to Matt's server, without
               changing Matt's server.

Responsibility: Jamie

hackerspaces.org entry

Name: Wiki page: http://hackerspaces.org/wiki/Oxford

(With magic statistics and properties reflected on other pages.)

Contains: A wiki page on hackerspaces.org (World wide umbrella org).

Contains a description of Oxford Hackspace, and various
statistics, such as number of members, physical size, where
we are at in setting up, and other things.
The statistics and properties are reflected on other pages
automatically (after a few hours caching time potentially),
such as lists of hackspaces, and the global map.

Status: The statistics are somewhat wrong.

Links in the descriptions are VERY WRONG NOW, and
maybe the description is a dated, or maybe it's good
               and should be copied.

Owner/admin: hackerspace.org, world wide hackspace umbrella org.

(They have lots of good links to stuff, blog aggregators
               from multiple hackspaces, etc.)
BUT it's a functional Wiki, anyone should be able to edit this.

Issues: Links in the descriptions are VERY WRONG NOW. Tasks pending: Update the descriptions, links and statistics.

Is it ready to take out of "planned" and into "active" yet?

Responsibility: ???

Maintenance: Make sure the Oxford descriptions, links and statistics

               are kept up to date.

hackspace.org.uk listing

Name: Wiki page: http://hackspace.org.uk/view/Main_Page Contains: List of UK hackspaces they know about. We should add ourselves. Status: Currently Oxford isn't on the list. Owner/admin: UK Hackspace Foundation, aka. hackspace.org.uk

Is associated with London Hackspace, but represents UK.
BUT it's a functional Wiki, anyone should be able to edit this.

Issues: Currently Oxford isn't on the list. Tasks pending: Put Oxford on the list when we're ready, or decide it's not useful. Responsibility: Nick or Jamie

Maintenance: Make sure Oxford is present and link is kept up to date.

oxford.hackspace.org.uk subdomain

Name: Domain and web site: http://oxford.hackspace.org.uk/ Contains: A pointer in hackspace.org.uk, to a server for Oxford.

A web page/site in Oxford, served for that domain, or
it could just redirect to our main site, or redirect
to our hackerspaces.org (worldwide) summary page.
(Other non-HTTP services theoretically can go on it too.)

Status: Doesn't exist yet. Owner/admin: UK Hackspace Foundation, aka. hackspace.org.uk.

Is associated with London Hackspace, but represents UK.

Issues: Doesn't exist, waiting for server to point to. Tasks done: We've asked about the CNAME thing. Tasks pending: Ask for a CNAME to our new server location, or decide it's not useful.

Needs a new server ready to serve at this URL.
(Possibly an NS record would be more versatile.)

Responsibility: Nick or Jamie

Maintenance: Make sure oxford DNS record is kept up to date.

Make sure oxford web page, or http redirection service,
               is kept up to date.
