Laser Cutter Fire Incident Log

We need to keep track of fire-related incidents to ensure the continued safe operation of the laser cutter, and to make sure risk is reduced as far as possible.

If you are using the laser cutter and notice sustained flames on the workpiece you are cutting, for more than a few seconds after the laser has passed, this is an incident that needs to be logged.

Date Material Incident description Recommendations
Sept 2016 Plywood, 9mm Fire occurred briefly while cutting at 60% laser power and low speed (10 mms-1). Self-extinguished after 5-10 seconds. 9mm plywood is on the limit of thickness the laser cutter can safely handle. Take care to watch it continuously.
